Is the benefit of recycling materials offset by the plastic used to make the recycle bin?
Today at work, managers wine through the office and placed blue recycling bins on every desk in our office of 250 employees. Claiming that the individual boxes that will help us to increase the amount of materials (paper, bottles, cans, etc.) we recycle, I feel like we are in the negative now because of all plastics used to create these containers. Does anyone know the equivalent amount of material to be recycled to make materials used to manufacture the blue boxes?
And the labor and materials and energy involved in the machinery and trucks and fuel used to fetch all recycled materials and bring them to a plant …… Answer – is worthwhile if it can be done profitably. If you can not then the resources used are greater than the resources saved. In other words, 90% of time is a good idea measure that only makes things worse. Like HOV lanes (consolidation of 97% of the 4 traffic lanes 3).
