why is it so cold this summer in the Bay Area ca?
is global warming has nothing to do with it? is usually 75-90 degrees around San Francisco / Oakland in the summer time. this summer is mid 70 to mid 60 and if we're lucky. has even been sprayed! no sun at all! what is happening?
With the cold Pacific Ocean waters along the coast, a layer of cool, moist layer of air usually can be found next to of water in the hot season. Most of the time during the summer, CA will be under strong ridge of high pressure. The surface high pressure is caused by the weight of the atmosphere above it and the air is sinking due to the stable ridge aloft. Is this air sinks to keep the cold, shallow sea of moist air for most of the warm season. When this is shallow sea air, the sea breeze will be limited to how far you can transport this cold air can or bring continental cooler air to some of the higher elevations of the coastal mountain range, delta, and the Bay Area. What makes this summer so much cooler, not only for the Bay Area and the higher elevations of the coastal range, but the Delta and the adjacent hinterland Sacramento and San Joaquin cool valley regions has been the trough of low pressure or a weak high pressure system that has dominated AC north wind most of the warm season so far. With this type of pattern, there is less air sinks in the air. This will allow the fresh sea air to thicken and enlarge the region can be made. The weaker pressure on the coastal region of CA also help strengthen the sea breeze allow it to carry this fresh air in more points in the area. You can easily control the thickness of sea air near the Bay are looking at the website of Fort Ord profiles through this link. http://www.weather.nps.navy.mil/profiler/profiler_all.html The plot of the profiler in this link is updated once every hour with the latest data on your left. (Make sure you hit the reload button in your web browser to ensure that you are viewing the latest images.) Moisture and cold air from the marine layer are represented in this table with purple and blue colors and the hot, dry air above the marine layer are represented by red and orange colors. If you see no purple or blue, the sea air has also withdrawn the coast and the entire Bay Area will be very hot. To control the sea breezes bring fresh air inside when the sea air is thick, go to this link. It may take 10-15 seconds to load the animation of the wind in the Bay Area. It is updated every hour and the length of the lines represent wind speed low-level winds. Looking at this animation, you will see how far inland the sea breeze is going, or even exist for that day, which http://sfports.wr.usgs.gov/wind/streaklines.shtml as long as you see this pattern continues, you will see little change in the thickness of the marine layer that are in Fort Ord. And you can expect a warm breeze the sea every day to continue to bring air blue for most if not all Bay Area ..
