While finishing last month's article about 'saying no formaldehyde, toluene and DBP, a question popped into my mind. In the past, I do not care what kind nail polish I use, if it is safe or not. Now, since I would like to continue with safer nail polish, I remove the old nail polish I've been collecting. But what good would that melt away?

After an Internet search, I just found out that nail polish can not throw them junk like that, because it is flammable and are classified as household hazardous waste (at least that is what the Environmental Protection Agency U.S., say). It means nail polish that is as dangerous as your home cleaning his cabinet under the sink. And to throw them wrong could contaminate the environment and endanger human health. Moreover, by making it illegal. Oh, my God, I do not know nail polish can be so difficult!

Then I ran into the city of San Diego website. From there I knew that there is a household hazardous waste facility transfer (or a landfill) near where I live, to accept not only nail polish, but nail polish remover, batteries, light bulbs, paint, etc. It is open to residents of the city of San Diego alone. And it is necessary to appointment. So I called and made an appointment. It was actually pretty easy. I did not wait long before someone took my call. And I have an appointment on Saturday more close (which is only open on Saturdays). Abandonment of the waste was easy too. Barely made it, I had my ID checked, then went to an area where some people were waiting to take away from the trunk of my car and I was ready to go. Best of all, it's free!

I I think you can take up to 15 gallons of waste at a time. You can also bring all kinds of hazardous waste. I bought some batteries with my nail polish in a plastic bag. Just make sure they are securely closed. We recommend collecting garbage for a while, like a year, before throwing it. Or they may be volunteers to recycle nail polish friends and family. If you are a resident in another city, you can contact your city's website or Earth 911 website. On Earth 911, you can find a recycling center near you on the basis of a city or ZIP code.

And if you feel creative reuse of old nails unwanted polish is always a good idea. From prevention of rust in a deep scratch in your car to the color coding belongings at home, nail polish may be helpful.
