I have a Recycle Question?
if we are reusing products, why is the price still the same? for example my local food store gives out these reusable bags to shop with saving the owner thousands each month on plastic bags, but you never see a decrease in food prices, same goes for your good old burger joint, they use recycled paper to wrap a burger, so why not lower the price?
here is one i cant understand,GO GREEN, but we are still using man made toxic plastic bottles to drink from, hummm i thought glass was more reusable .. so my question should we pretend we are saving the earth,or is it all about the money!
The only thing that drives down prices is competition. If their costs go down, they simply pocket more profit. Businesses are motivated to sell their products for as high a price as they can, the only time they reduce prices is if the increase in volume offsets the loss or if a competitor has been undercutting their prices.
What appears as environmental friendly products like paper wrap for burgers were only introduced to attract the environmentally conscious as customers. It had no basis in reduction of cost nor was it actually good for the environment. Paper production produces a lot of pollution in that it takes vast amounts of energy, chemicals and water to produce paper and paper does not degrade in anaerobic environments like landfills. Styrofoam containers could easily have been more friendly to the environment than paper wrappers especially if strategic weak molecules were incorporated into the hydrocarbon chains, these links could be sensitive to light, temperature and or water and would cause the styrofoam to disintegrate. Public perception was that paper would be more environmentally conscious and the companies didn’t care as long as they attracted more customers.
