Solar shingles are made to look more like a conventional roof. The performance is similar to solar panels, but the position of your house determine efficiency. With panels, you can adjust the angle of incident. If your house is right, then it will be fine and you can save the cost of regular tiles. One thing to consider is the life of the tile and the cost of replacement / repair.
