Ocean water has an enormous capacity for warmth and power. Therefore the manufacturing processes involved in Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) uses different aspects of sea water to generate energy. There are basically three types of OTEC:
* Closure of the OTEC cycle: This is a liquid with a point low boiling as propane and use as an intermediary. Warm sea water is inserted into the reaction chamber OTEC plant and boils the intermediate fluid. The steam generated by the fluid pushes the engine turbine, producing electricity. The heated vapor then cooled with cold water from the sea.
* Open OTC cycle: The process is as closed-cycle OTEC, except it does not use any fluid medium. Here the sea water pushes the turbine engine. Vacuum is used to evaporate sea water is warm in the ocean surface. When released in a limited area, this vapor has the power and ability to make operate the blower motor. After the steam to produce enough electricity, the next step is to add water to the deeper ocean areas for steam. This not only cools the hot steam, but also removes the salt from it, making it unfit for human consumption.
* The hybrid cycle OTEC there at this time simply as a theory. This is to maximize ocean thermal energy through the use of two sub theories. Discussions of the first theory on the use of closed-cycle OTEC sub to produce electricity and this electricity is then used to create the vacuum environment for cycling open.
Beyond the generation of electricity, OTEC has several uses, including chemical treatments, pumping cold water into deep water for daily use, as cooling, etc. Furthermore, the process can also be used for marine culture, where, during the period of moderation, the sea water around the plant OTEC.
